The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced federal disaster assistance for Georgia. This is to help the state and local areas recover from Hurricane Helene. The hurricane started on September 24, 2024, and is still ongoing.
President Biden has issued a major disaster declaration for Georgia. This is in response to the hurricane’s impact.
HUD is taking immediate action:
- Implementing a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures for FHA-insured mortgages and Section 184 Indian Home Loan Guarantee program mortgages.
- Automatically granting a 90-day extension on Home Equity Conversion Mortgages.
These actions start from the date of the President’s disaster declaration.
